 Go, girl!

Get ready for HoustonMom.com’s “Go, girl!”, Emma Sexton.

Emma is a real mom living in northwest Houston with her husband and three children. We chose her to be our first “Go, girl!” because she’s real – and that’s so important for us moms who need good role model friends in our lives.

On to Emma. She’s very actively volunteers at her kid’s elementary school, helps her husband as managing partner of Legacy Ford in Sugarland/Rosenberg area dealership (also is the company’s advertising spokesperson on the Spanish network and is in charge of its charitable-giving programs), and believes having a strong faith in God and commitment to taking care of and loving your family are the top priorities in life. Here’s what Emma had to say when interviewed for HM’s Mom of the Month.

“I was born November 1967 in Los Angeles Calif., and moved here at age 12. I am now a proud Houstonian. I was excited to celebrate my 40th b-day in November, which I call my ‘rebirth’!

I love my family first and foremost. I also love to talk to people and people watch, travel, cook, learn about different cultures, work out, and I admire the beauty of all things and Latin music.

Since I didn’t finish college, I want to go back someday and get my degree. When I grow up, I would like to be a mentor to my community.

When I was a child, I grew up with two sisters that were much younger than me, so at times I felt like their mom.  It’s a great experience, though.  I also have two brothers, and we got along pretty well for most part, but I am definitely closer to my sisters.

I believe a great family value to teach kids at any age is having strong morals and sticking with them. Our society seems to think that having morals and ethics are not important anymore. To me, that never goes out of style. I try to emphasis this whenever possible to my kids.

My favorite date night with my hubby is going out to eat at a real nice restaurant. Maybe downtown, something new and trendy. It makes us feel like we are dating again, and keeping the communication lines open is always a plus. We like to spice up our marriage by getting away for a weekend get-away. It really does wonders!! And we have our parents to help out with the kids. That’s a real bonus, I know.

Giving back to the community gives my life so much fulfillment and joy. Once you've done it you are hooked. My husband and I recently went to the Ft. Bend county fair and donated to a FFA scholarship program in that area through our dealership, Planet Ford Hwy 6 South. We had a fabulous time while giving back to the kids in the community. We also are annual supporters of Alief School District near our dealership that has many at-risk kids. It makes my own kids so proud when they see us giving back to others; I love to see the gleam in their eyes when I talk about charitable giving.  It gives me goose bumps..

The most challenging part of being a mother of three children (which I had back to back about 18 months apart) is making sure to devout time to each of the them. Keep a focus on them as individuals. It’s important to meet their needs and nurture them, while making it all look like fun. I know that God gives me strength each and every day. He is always on my side. Since I work part time at the dealership, I gives me an outlet that I didn’t have before when the kids were younger. Moms really need this outlet, I know!

Peace and happiness always, Houston moms.

~Emma
